WHO RUNS THE TOY LIBRARY?

We are a non-profit organization run by a voluntary committee with support from our members and their families. We are not a council or government organisation nor a private company. We are a group of parents working together to benefit our children. The library is run by the members and a volunteer committee, who looks after the day-to-day running of the library. The library also employs one paid librarian. 

WHAT HAPPENS IF WE LOSE A PIECE TO A TOY?

If you lose a piece and you are not able to find the piece, you will be charged a replacement fee of $5.00. If you find the piece this is fully refundable. If a missing piece causes the toy to be incomplete, you are welcome to buy the toy (and we hope you find the piece at home) or pay to replace it. 

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD BREAKS A TOY?

You will be charged the replacement cost. Each toy has a different cost. 

HOW MANY TOYS MAY I HIRE?

You can hire up to 6 toys at a time. You can also renew the toys for a further 2 weeks, unless someone else has reserved them.

CAN MY CHILDREN STAY AND PLAY IN THE TOY LIBRARY?

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we no longer allow children to stay and play in the toy library. Please ensure you and your children use the provided hand sanitizer upon entering the toy library. Mask wearing while you are inside is encouraged.

I CHOSE A DUTY MEMBERSHIP, WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO?

Thanks so much for choosing a Duty Membership! A duty member helps for 4 sessions throughout the year at the Toy Library - at least 1 every school term. This includes counting and checking toys for damage when they have been returned. You may be asked to complete some duties that are in need such as cleaning and stock-take.  

CAN I SUGGEST A TOY FOR YOU TO BUY?

Kaiapoi Toy Library welcomes purchase suggestions from our members! We aim to purchase new toys every month. While we may not be able to add everything that is suggested, your suggestion will receive serious consideration by the Committee. To make a purchase suggestion, please fill out this online form.

DO YOU CLOSE DURING PUBLIC/CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS?

Yes, we do close during the Christmas holidays but don’t worry you are still able to hire toys out over this period. We usually close the week before Christmas and open again two weeks later. We sometimes close over other public holidays during the year but are open during term school holidays. 

THIS ALL SOUNDS GREAT! HOW DO I SIGN UP?

We are currently in the process of going digital with our sign-ups! Soon, you will be able to sign up directly through our toy catalogue and member site on SETLS. You may come into the toy library during open hours and sign up in person with our Librarian. Please ensure you bring Photo ID and a recent Utility bill (as proof of address).
